Builder in the Spotlight #6: Mathijs Bongers
In the run-up to Bricktopia World, we will be introducing some of the exhibitors to you. For this ‘Builder in the Spotlight’, we asked the participant a number of questions and took photos of the LEGO® creation that will be on display at the MECC on 17 and 18 May.
This way you'll get a taste of all the beauty that will be on show. Curious to see this MOC (My Own Creation) and more? Then buy your tickets for Bricktopia World online in advance for a better price. See the ‘Visitors page for more info and link to the ticket shop.
The ‘Builder in the Spotlight’ this time is Mathijs Bongers with the theme ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Steampunk’.
My name is Mathijs Bongers. For as long as I can remember, I've been building with LEGO. I started building with LEGO when I was three years old. First Duplo, and LEGO soon followed.
I am exhibiting with the following themes: Harry Potter and Steampunk.
I spent about four months building the Harry Potter MOC. It's a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so it has to match the film scene as closely as possible. I spent about three months building the Steampunk MOC.
The idea for this Harry Potter MOC came about when I had watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Steampunk is a theme where I can channel all my inspiration. Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction,
I am all-round when it comes to themes. I enjoy many subjects, as long as I can use my creativity. I often build in the Space/Sci-fi theme. The possibilities are endless. I enjoy building Space/Sci-fi layouts with my own designed vehicles. I equip these vehicles with playable functions, just as LEGO itself does and used to do with their own sets. Rock Raiders is one of my favourite LEGO Sci-fi themes.
I also regularly build in the Steampunk theme, and themes such as Adventurers and Harry Potter also feature. I also sometimes build scale models of realistic vehicles.
