A truly summery edition of Bricktopia Horst
On 11 and 12 July, the Mèrthal in Horst was packed with LEGO® for the second time. Following a successful event in July 2024, we were looking forward to returning to the Mèrthal with Dutchbricks. Co-organiser Jean-Paul Geurtjens wrote a report on Summer Bricktopia 2026:
Preparations were proceeding smoothly. On Friday morning, 10 July, the time had finally come: setup could begin. Because of the expected heat, two large and four smaller fans had been hired to keep the temperature in the Mèrthal as pleasant as possible. Despite the noise of the fans, they thankfully provided the necessary cooling.
Around 12:00 the base was ready. A great result, giving the participants plenty of time to build their creations. That was also a good moment for coffee with vlaai. Ted, thanks again for the delicious vlaai!
On Saturday morning at 08:00, the doors were opened for the participants so that they could finish their setup or put the finishing touches to things. After the welcome address and a few brief announcements, the doors opened to the public at 10:00.
Despite the warm weather, many visitors found their way to Bricktopia. They were able to enjoy LEGO® creations and displays by 29 exhibitors covering a variety of themes. Saturday drew to a pleasant close with a group dinner attended by fifteen participants.
On Sunday 12 July at 10.00 am, the doors opened to the public once again and the first visitors poured in. There was also considerable interest on Sunday, despite the continuing hot weather. This did not stop many LEGO® fans from having a good look around and even picking up a few items from the nine sellers of LEGO® sets and individual bricks.
Looking back, we can speak of a very successful edition. Over the course of two days, we were able to welcome nearly 1,200 visitors. A wonderful result of which we can rightly be proud.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone who, in whatever way, has contributed to the success of Bricktopia Horst 2026. Without the contribution of partners, the dedication of all volunteers and participants, this event would not have been possible.
Over the coming months, our society will be focusing on preparations for our next event: Bricktopia World 2027. Make a note of 10 and 11 April in your diary and make sure you don’t miss this extra-large Bricktopia edition, which will be held at the MECC Maastricht for the second time.
