Community build Dutchbricks for Bricktopia World 2025

To mark our 10th anniversary as Dutchbricks (a LEGO®-approved club), we have not only set about organising Bricktopia World, but have also launched an initiative to create a so-called ‘Community build’ with the club’s members.

‘Community build’ means that we have worked together with (some of) our members to design and construct this large building

The idea that really got most members excited was to build a full-scale LEGO® model of what is perhaps Maastricht’s most iconic location: the Vrijthof. The plan was to recreate this beautiful city centre on a scale of 1:40 and display it during our event on 17 and 18 May 2025 at the MECC Maastricht.

The finished layout measures approximately 4 by 4 metres. As well as the considerable amount of time, energy and enjoyment that went into it, purchasing the tens of thousands of LEGO® bricks required for this unique layout was, of course, a costly undertaking. We are therefore proud that we managed to complete this project exactly as planned within a relatively short timeframe.

The history of the Vrijthof is unique in the Netherlands due to its continuous use since Roman times. There are 38 national monuments on the square, including St John’s Church, St Servatius Basilica, the Hoofdwacht, the Generaalshuis and the Spanish Government House. As an extra touch, we felt that the setting for the André Rieu concerts (held there every summer) should not be missing from this famous square in LEGO® form.
